Mr. Ruiz is from the city of Somerton, AZ and obtained his B.S. in Molecular and Cellular Biology from the University of Arizona. He worked in the clinical research industry in Anaheim, CA for two years then decided to satisfy his curiosity for teaching. After teaching several math courses in Yuma, AZ for seven years made the move back to southern California. Before moving to teach at e3 Civic High, he taught students from his hometown of Somerton (at Kofa High School), and recognizes them as, “some of the proudest years” of his life.
He obtained his M. Ed in Secondary Education with a Mathematics emphasis from Grand Canyon University. For the past year, he has been working towards a Ph.D degree part time in Curriculum, Instruction, and the Science of Learning.
Mr. Ruiz finds great satisfaction in exposing scholars to math and its relation to science and the world around them. He aims to instill confidence, an appreciation, and to alter their perception of math. More than anything, he strives to help students understand that they are ALL capable of achieving whatever their post high school aspirations are by applying consistent effort and perseverance. He strongly believes that an education is what we can use to align ourselves with those who are more fortunate and privileged; and that with an education we can provide for ourselves a world of possibilities while contributing positively to society.
