Ms. Harkrider serves as a humanities teacher and instructional coach at e3 Civic High. Born and raised in Texas, Ms. Harkrider moved to San Diego in 2013. Since relocating, she has become active in building opportunities for English learners and first generation college students with UCSD's TRiO and Upward Bound programs as well as at e3 Civic High.
Ms. Harkrider attended the University of Texas at Dallas where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Literary Studies and in Secondary Education. She holds credentials in Texas and California in English Language Arts and in English as a Second Language (ESL). Over the past ten years, Ms. Harkrider has taught English, social sciences, ESL, and journalism courses.
Before entering the secondary teaching profession, Ms. Harkrider spent several years teaching adult learners in Mexico, China, Egypt, Morocco, Russia, and in the United States. She has a passion for empowering students to overcome personal adversity in order to forge a path of success and joy for their lives.
In her free time, Ms. Harkrider enjoys oil painting, relaxing on the beach, playing guitar, and traveling. She is a lover of all world languages, and she strives to continuously help students to discover their unique talents and abilities.
